Her Game, Her Story

How did sport feel for you at school?
Her Game, Her Story brings together 13 girls' memories of school sport, spanning generations and countries.

‘I did enjoy hockey. I could run about and hack people’s feet with a hockey stick. I was a bit vicious. We wore a navy hockey skirt, white top and long socks.’ (Maureen, 1960s)

‘At High School we got basketball. The boys played football. It didn’t feel strange to be separated from the boys at school. It’s for privacy and part of our religion.’ (Ibrar, 2000s)

‘The sport I did best was athletics. I didn’t need to worry about my eyesight or getting hit by the ball! I just needed to run fast. I ran at Meadowbank for the inter-schools competition and won medals.’ (Joyce, 1970s)

Open everyday 11-4 at The Wee Museum of Memory 2, First floor of Ocean Terminal (next to Starbucks), Edinburgh, EH6 6JJ
