Welcome to the Sikh Stories Podcast series. Produced in collaboration with Sikh Sanjog, The Living Memory Association and funded by Awards for All Scotland. As a minority group within the wider minority communities, the Sikh community has a relatively low profile, yet has been a part of the fabric of Leith and Edinburgh since the 1940’s. We will engage members of the community who have not historically had the opportunity to share their experience of being first, second and third generation Sikhs living in Leith and Edinburgh. We hope to initiate the start of a longer-term ambition to record and archive the experiences of the Sikh Community ensuring current and future generations learn about the community’s rich, varied and traumatic experiences. We will learn about childhood experiences, living within the Sikh and Scottish cultures, individual identity and how this has been shaped over time, community and what this means to individuals within and beyond the Sikh Community. Additionally, we will explore what faith, tradition, family and self-expression mean to individuals across generations.
If you are from or have a connection to the Sikh Community in Leith or Edinburgh and have a story to tell, please get in touch by contacting Sikh Sanjog through our website at sikhsanjog.com.
